Futureversity received the Employability award for its Vacation Education programme

On 23rd March 2017, FutureVersity received the Employability award for its Vacation Education programme at the 1st inaugural London Youth Awards as this year London Youth marks its 130th anniversary.

The criteria of the Employability award was ‘for organisations that have gone above and beyond the ordinary in their dedication to helping young people over barriers to enter and maintain work.’

Futureversity’s Vacation Education unique approach of equipping the future workforce with essential skills and preventing young people from becoming NEET, was picked over two other shortlisted charities in the category - ECYPS/DAZU and SAS Martial Arts.

London Youth said that, ‘Vacation Education is a new initiative which builds on FutureVersity’s 20 years’ experience in delivering school holiday programmes. It aims to tackle social mobility through targeting ‘at-risk’ young people offering purposeful, school holiday activities which help break down barriers to employment. It delivers clear, evidenced outcomes that help beneficiaries achieve in school and prepare them better for the world of work. Young people are happy to fill up their ‘empty summers’ by broadening horizons and learning core capabilities for work, all in a fun and enjoyable way. Short term impact results were outstanding, for example the project saw a 31.5% increase in Drive and 34.4% increase in Resilience. Teachers reported that children returned to school happier than in other years, motivated to succeed and had higher than previous aspirations for their futures.

London Youth aim is to support and challenge young people and the awards were held to demonstrate the outstanding work happening across the London Youth network, from the organisations developing young leaders through sports and arts, to the young people seizing opportunities to give back and the youth workers going that extra mile to support and challenge young people to become the best they can be. The nominees includes a wide variety of youth organisations, young people and youth workers unified by their exceptional dedication to the youth sector and their local communities!
